Brough Lodge: a remarkable site on the Shetland island of Fetlar

A Brief Introduction

Brough Lodge, dating from the 19th century, is situated on the island of Fetlar.  It is remarkable for its architecture, location and potential future.  During 2014, work was undertaken to ensure that the A- listed main house is wind- and watertight.  However, it still needs major internal restoration. We, the BROUGH LODGE TRUST, want to bring it back to life and create a place in which Shetland’s rich musical and textile heritage is nurtured for a sustainable future.

Part of that heritage is Shetland’s hand-knitting tradition and we’re very concerned about its future, because the skills are no longer taught to children in schools.  We’ve decided that, in the short term, we should find ways of providing tuition to Shetland children, with the help of volunteer tutors.  The first stage involves five pilot projects and you can read more - and find out how you can support them - here.

On this website, we outline Our Vision for Brough Lodge, provide details about The Project and explain How you can help. Find out more: About Brough Lodge.
