Doors Open Days Day 17/18 Sept 2011
The "Doors Open Days" is an event observed throughout the EU every year in September. It is organised in Scotland by the Scottish Civic Trust. Interesting and historic buildings, usually not open to the public, are partly accessible during the designated days.
Marjolein Robertson, Planning Assistant at the Infrastructure Services of Shetland IslandsCouncil took the opportunity during this initiative to propose that Brough Lodge and Leagarth house on Fetlar be open for visits. Thanks to her involvement and to the support of Trust volunteer, Frances O'Hurley, a tour of the outside of Brough Lodge was possible and a number of pre-booked visitors learned about the history and the vision for Brough Lodge.
For safety reasons it was not possible for visitors to enter inside the Brough Lodge building but subsequently they were given the opportunity to view photographs, learn more about the history, and watch a video showing the interior of Brough Lodge, during their optional visit to the Fetlar Interpretive Centre.
